Experiencing The Outdoors In Augusta

One of the most famous and gorgeous outdoor venues in Augusta is Pendleton King Park. A far cry from the urbanity of downtown Toronto condos, this green space is the naturalists paradise. Pendleton King Park (known locally as PKP) is a vast 64-acre bird sanctuary that features pine forests and sand ridges, as well as several marshes. The park is truly a gem located in the heart of Augusta. There are many splendid features of the park, including: new playgrounds, an 18-hole disc golf course, tennis and workout circuit courses, nature trails for walking jogging and cycling, as well as many wide open spaces for picnicking and play. Clearly this park has got it all!

Lake Elizabeth is a prominent feature of this park. The serene lake has a fountain that is all natural (no aquarium gravel or chlorine to be found here) and it is home to many happy ducks and geese that park goers can feed at their leisure. Pendleton King Park also has a variety of different gardens to offer, perfect for holding events such as company picnics and family gatherings. There are many different attractions in the gardens including sculptures, statues, fountains, and an assortment of flowers for viewing.

The Touch and Smell Garden, one of the highlights of PKP, was constructed in the early 1970s to serve as an outdoor hands-on classroom where students of all ages can learn and study herbs through sensory perceptions and touching and smelling the actual plant material themselves. There is even a fountain designed for hand washing, allowing visitors to cleanse their pallet before moving onto the next fragrance or plant for identification. There is more to see and do here than you would get with a day looking through a giant Scarborough home for sale! Set aside many hours if you plan to visit the Touch and Smell Garden.

The garden houses a beautiful and ornate fountain and the popular four seasons' statues. The emphasis of this garden is on fragrance and it is fully accessible for those visitors with limited mobility. PKP has such a wide variety of flora; it could easily serve as Augusta's sole greenhouse supplier. For these and many other reasons, PKP is a favorite place for weddings and receptions. Augusta has many amazing parks, and PKP is only one of the many that residents may enjoy year round.

Mistletoe State Park is another highly popular spot for residents and visitors of Georgia. Situated along the peaceful 72,000 acre Clarks Hill Lake, this 1,972 acre park is known by locals as one of the finest and most fun bass fishing spots in the entire nation. There may not be any [studio art tours] in this location, yet there is far more to see here in nature's artwork. For instance, the park also includes a wildlife observation area, a campground nestled on a sprawling peninsula, ten fully equipped cottages that sit right on the lake, a swimming beach with the softest sand, three boat ramps, and five large picnic shelters. Luckily for visitors, canoes, fishing boats and life jackets are available for rent at a reasonable rate, which means you will not have to work off your rental fees by helping with the lagoon cleaning!

No matter which park you choose to visit, you are sure to find out what many Augusta residents already know: that the outdoors is the place to be in this fabulous southern city.
